Brief
Yard & Coop is a brand new fried chicken restaurant and bar that opened it’s doors in Manchester’s Northern Quarter in summer 2015. Our brief was to produce a full brand and design package from scratch that set them apart from the competition as the coolest new place to eat and drink.

Solution
Our research drew inspiration from classic 1950s American culture, old diners, vintage advertising and packaging, Wes Andersen colour palettes, old letterpress posters and 50s typography. Working closely with the Yard & Coop owners and marketing team, our logo design had an authentic handmade feel that felt welcoming, fun and vintage. This design carried through to the menus which were created using a mix of hand drawn and retro style typography. They were printed in single colour black on bright coloured stock to give the restaurant a vibrant look. As well as designing slogans to be painted on the walls, we also produced a whole load of chicken themed posters using illustration, typography, slogans, puns and collage that formed the basis of a huge collage feature wall within the restaurant. Our work really helped to set the tone of Yard & Coop which has been a huge success since its launch.
We also designed and built their lovely website. All in all it was clucking good fun!
